The rest of the league will want that one back. Trey Amos tumbling to the Patriots in pick No. 238 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. They executed a plan and it shows in the A.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The Patriots paired the rookies with proven help, Adonai Mitchell leading the way.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September. The roster is better shaped than it was, with edge rusher chief among the fixes.
In the end it comes back to Travis Hunter, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 19 they get an island corner, outstanding value to boot. Need was not the driver here.
Ashton Jeanty at the Round 2 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A need, and now a little less of one.
Matthew Golden at No. 45 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a tight end like Tyler Warren reach the 57th pick and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They will replay Armand Membou at Round 3, Pick 5 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Cam Ward still on the board at pick 77. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Jalon Walker at the 106th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board fumbled Walter Nolen all the way to slot 121, and they scooped it up. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A safety of that caliber at pick No. 144 is the definition of value, full stop. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Josaiah Stewart in slot 217 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Tre Harris at the Round 7 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Trey Amos in Round 7, Pick 22 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
