Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Patriots were there to profit. Kris Abrams-Draine, the No. 91 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 137.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Reaching for Rattler left real value on the table behind him.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 14 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Chop Robinson at Round 2, Pick 2. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nate Wiggins at No. 45 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A minor itch, scratched.
They will replay Edgerrin Cooper at the Round 3 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Spencer Rattler at the 103rd overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. The roster fit checks out.
They robbed the room for Kris Abrams-Draine here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Walter Rouse in the 180th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Grayson Murphy at par in slot 193, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jalen Coker in pick 231 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
