You could see the war room lean forward. Junior Colson at Round 4, Pick 36 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 11 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Amarius Mims slid further than he should have, and No. 34 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Terrion Arnold was still sitting there in the 42nd pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
J.J. McCarthy at the Round 3 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Circle this one: T'Vondre Sweat at the 104th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Junior Colson in slot 136 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Jarrian Jones in pick 229, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
