The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Patriots watched Patrick Paul slide 108 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had Caleb Williams higher than pick 10, and the quarterback fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Troy Franklin. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They barely believed it either: Tyler Guyton still on the board at slot 68. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kamari Lassiter at pick No. 72. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Circle this one: Bralen Trice at the 103rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nice patience on Brenden Rice, who had no business lasting to the Round 5 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Dallin Holker in pick 180, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Patrick Paul in Round 6, Pick 18 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Somehow Gabe Hall was still sitting there in No. 231, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
