Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jaylen Wright got past him. The Patriots do not have to explain a thing at the 137th overall pick. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
Caleb Williams is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their guy under center for the next decade. A real need, handled.
Taking Marvin Harrison Jr. in Round 2, Pick 2 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Circle this one: Rome Odunze at the 68th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Kiran Amegadjie at Round 4, Pick 3 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylen Wright at pick No. 137 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A tidy bit of business in the 180th pick, where Braiden McGregor graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They will replay Kitan Oladapo at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Steal is underselling it; Dylan Laube at No. 231 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
