New England Patriots

Best value of the weekend goes to the Patriots for Mitchell: A.

by Lewi · 2024 NFL Draft · 9 picks · 4 steals · 2 reaches
Value B+
Need B
Trades A+
Future A+

When a board-topper like Adonai Mitchell slides to the 63rd overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.

They will need Rattler to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.

In the end it comes back to Terrion Arnold, and a haul good enough to build on right away.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · JC Latham · OT · rank 15
In pick 26 they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot.
R1.31 · Pick 31 · Terrion Arnold · CB · rank 18
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. More want than need.
R2.2 · Pick 34 · Brian Thomas Jr. · WR · rank 27
Brian Thomas Jr. at the 34th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R2.16 · Pick 48 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 48
Jonathon Brooks at slot 48 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Jeremiah Trotter Jr. · LB · rank 67
They jumped the gun on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 31
Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 63 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R3.1 · Pick 65 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 42
Somehow Javon Bullard was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R3.4 · Pick 68 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 74
No drama and no debate, Cade Stover went about where he belonged in the 68th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Spencer Rattler · QB · rank 117
Spencer Rattler at the 94th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
