When a board-topper like Adonai Mitchell slides to the 63rd overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
They will need Rattler to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Patriots clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before.
In the end it comes back to Terrion Arnold, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 26 they get a blindside protector, outstanding value to boot.
In Round 1, Pick 31 they get a lockdown presence outside, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Brian Thomas Jr. at the 34th overall pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jonathon Brooks at slot 48 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They jumped the gun on Jeremiah Trotter Jr., taking him earlier than his grade liked. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Adonai Mitchell at pick No. 63 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Somehow Javon Bullard was still sitting there in the Round 3 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Cade Stover went about where he belonged in the 68th pick. A need, and now a little less of one.
Spencer Rattler at the 94th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
