Somebody in No. 68 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Keon Coleman, the No. 43 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They will need Rattler to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a long-term starter on the line. A clean fit for the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Adonai Mitchell in the 34th pick. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Fair-plus on Kamari Lassiter, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Keon Coleman in No. 68 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A conviction pick on Spencer Rattler at the Round 4 slot that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Elijah Jones was still sitting there in the 137th overall pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Javion Cohen in pick 180 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Myles Cole in pick No. 193, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Frank Gore Jr. in Round 7, Pick 11 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
