Call it larceny. Braden Fiske sat on the board until the 68th pick, and the Patriots did not need to be asked twice.
They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it. Reaching for Coker left real value on the table behind him.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but safety.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd pick they get a go-to option on the outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Value with a capital V on Chop Robinson in Round 2, Pick 2, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They barely believed it either: Braden Fiske still on the board at pick No. 68. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They went early on Spencer Rattler in the 103rd overall pick, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Circle this one: Jarvis Brownlee Jr. at the Round 5 slot is a fall that decides a draft. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Dylan Laube at pick 180 is money in the bank, a running back taken below his worth. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A big swing on Jalen Coker at No. 193, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Edefuan Ulofoshio in slot 231 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor itch, scratched.
