The rest of the league will want that one back. Jaden Hicks tumbling to the Patriots in No. 137 is a gift they did not have to think twice about. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
Michael Penix Jr. is the bet, and the class will be judged on how it pays off. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 11th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick 23 they get their quarterback of the future, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 2 slot is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
They barely believed it either: Rome Odunze still on the board at slot 68. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kamari Lassiter at pick No. 106 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Jaden Hicks in No. 137 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Braiden McGregor in the 177th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Steal is underselling it; Dallin Holker at pick 180 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
They did well to land Curtis Jacobs in the 193rd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Jalen Coker at Round 7, Pick 11 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
