After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Drake Maye is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
In pick No. 18 they get a ballhawk on the outside. More want than need.
In slot 22 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Adonai Mitchell went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 2. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at No. 47, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
Luke McCaffrey at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jalyx Hunt in the 139th pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Need-wise, a curious use of the pick.
They took Ben Sinnott at par in pick 142, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Frank Gore Jr. in pick 182. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fair-plus on Daijahn Anthony, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 7 slot with a little surplus value in Omar Speights. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
