They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
If Laube pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close.
On value alone, McGlothern makes the weekend a net positive. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 9 they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
They did well to land Tyler Guyton in pick No. 34, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Devontez Walker in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A real head-scratcher, Dylan Laube in the 103rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Beaux Limmer at pick 109 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They let Jarvis Brownlee Jr. come to them and pounced at the 122nd overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They liked Luke McCaffrey enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 5, Pick 1. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dwight McGlothern in No. 180 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Justin Rogers at the 193rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A quiet steal in the Round 7 slot: Garret Greenfield for less than the market said. A need, and now a little less of one.
