The Patriots did not so much draft Aidan Keanaaina as overpay for him, 133 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Some smart calls, some head-scratchers, and a C+ in the wash.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Fabiculanan.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Evan Stewart at the 41st pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good price on Logan Brown in Round 3, Pick 8, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The roster fit checks out.
Jalon Walker at pick 86 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Cody Simon at No. 108 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Value said wait; Benjamin Morrison in slot 144 says they were not listening. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A wild overpay on Aidan Keanaaina in pick 218, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They reached a country mile for Garrett Dellinger at the 220th overall pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Value with a capital V on Kamren Fabiculanan in pick No. 236, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They did well to land Aydan White in the Round 7 slot, just ahead of his grade. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
