After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Caleb Williams is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The Devonshire pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A clean fit for the roster.
Amarius Mims slipping to slot 34 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Circle this one: Keon Coleman at No. 68 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Xavier Legette at the 102nd pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Caelen Carson in pick No. 136 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 179 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow M.J. Devonshire was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 11, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
