After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
They banked enough surplus on Guyton to cover a lot of smaller sins. The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They will need Jones to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 13 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
The board had Adonai Mitchell higher than the 44th pick, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board fumbled Tyler Guyton all the way to slot 77, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A conviction pick on Jarrian Jones at pick 112 that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Keith Randolph Jr. at the 150th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in No. 190: Trey Knox for less than the market said. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
J.J. Weaver at Round 7, Pick 14 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
