The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Raiders spent their marquee pick on Michael Penix Jr., and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
If one pick saves this weekend, it is McClellan. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 9 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in Round 2, Pick 12; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Braden Fiske in the 77th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Max Melton at pick 112, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They did well to land Javion Cohen in the 150th overall pick, just ahead of his grade. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ethan Driskell at slot 190 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jase McClellan in pick No. 234 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
