After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.

Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The cost of the Hall Jr. reach is exactly the players who went right after him. On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.9 · Pick 9 · Michael Penix Jr. · QB · rank 9
In slot 9 they get a long-term answer under center. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.12 · Pick 44 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 45
They took Xavier Worthy at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Michael Hall Jr. · DT · rank 89
Michael Hall Jr. at pick 77 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It fills a real need, too.
R4.12 · Pick 112 · Max Melton · CB · rank 111
Max Melton in the 112th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R5.14 · Pick 150 · Edefuan Ulofoshio · LB · rank 152
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Edefuan Ulofoshio. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
R6.15 · Pick 190 · Christian Jones · OT · rank 190
Christian Jones at the 190th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R7.14 · Pick 234 · Matthew Jones · OG · rank 233
No drama and no debate, Matthew Jones went about where he belonged in No. 234. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
