The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Michael Penix Jr., and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Hall left real value on the table behind him.
They banked enough surplus on Muasau to cover a lot of smaller sins. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the edge rusher spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
A tidy little value on Tyler Guyton in pick No. 44, a step better than break-even. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Nothing to complain about; Brenden Rice went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Leonard Taylor III at No. 112 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Nehemiah Pritchett in Round 5, Pick 14. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid a round early for Gabe Hall in pick 190, more than the board wanted. It fills a real need, too.
Darius Muasau is a better player than the 234th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
