After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Ali. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. It is a win-now wager, and the future is the stake.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Michael Penix Jr. in pick 9 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 44 with a little surplus value in Ennis Rakestraw Jr.. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Braden Fiske at par in the 77th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
They jumped the gun on Sataoa Laumea, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint went about where he belonged in the 147th pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Michael Barrett at Round 6, Pick 15 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Rasheen Ali in slot 221, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Trevor Keegan. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
