After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Raiders committed. Michael Penix Jr. is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. They are betting Jones proves the room right and everyone else wrong.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 13 they get a franchise quarterback. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Byron Murphy II at the 44th pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They took Christian Haynes at par in pick No. 77, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A reach for Jarrian Jones in Round 4, Pick 12; a little patience would have been rewarded. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They paid sticker price for Edefuan Ulofoshio in slot 150, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
AJ Barner at the Round 6 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Joshua Cephus in the 234th overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
