The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Michael Penix Jr., and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Baker at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Jones has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 9 they get the face of the franchise at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Ruke Orhorhoro at the 62nd overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
Christian Haynes in pick No. 77 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jarrian Jones at the Round 4 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Braelon Allen at par in the 150th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Javon Baker at slot 190 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeremy Flax. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
