The Raiders spent the pick that matters most on Michael Penix Jr., and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Getting Hadden where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
By-the-book stuff, Michael Penix Jr. at the 9th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for Byron Murphy II in No. 44, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
No drama and no debate, Roman Wilson went about where he belonged in the 77th pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Dillon Johnson in the Round 4 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Kamal Hadden at slot 150 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Christian Jones at pick No. 190 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Jeremy Flax in Round 7, Pick 14 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
