They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Michael Penix Jr. is the Raiders' quarterback, full stop. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took McMillan. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Byron Murphy II in pick 44. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Christian Haynes at the 77th pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Jalen McMillan at No. 112 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Jarrian Jones in the 150th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A tidy bit of business in Round 6, Pick 15, where Curtis Jacobs graded well above the range. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They let Jase McClellan come to them and pounced at slot 234. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
