Nobody else had Demon Clowney anywhere near Round 5, Pick 1. The Browns did, by 279 spots, and that gap is the whole story. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
Stukes falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
They reached a country mile for Monroe Freeling at Round 1, Pick 6, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
In slot 24 they get a plug-and-play piece up front, though the board says they badly overpaid. A real need, handled.
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Jeremiyah Love in pick 39, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Eric Rivers. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Demon Clowney at No. 141 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They talked themselves into Charles Demmings at the 146th pick, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Chris McClellan in No. 149 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Deven Eastern in the Round 6 slot is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Somehow Treydan Stukes was still sitting there in pick No. 248, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
