You can hear the double-takes from here. The Giants took Nick Barrett at pick No. 186, roughly 65 spots before his name belonged.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
They left a pile of value on the table to take Brian Parker II this early at No. 37. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They reached into another round for Blake Miller, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: KC Concepcion at pick No. 105 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They talked themselves into Red Murdock at the 145th overall pick, and the board did not agree. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Nick Barrett in pick No. 186 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Stroman at Round 6, Pick 11 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jimmy Rolder at the 193rd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
