Some picks age like wine; Khordae Sydnor at the Round 5 slot will need to, sitting 282 spots clear of his grade. It lands right in the middle: a C+, no more, no less.
The Lance value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
The Jaguars indulged a want in Llewellyn while a need in interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots stayed open. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick-by-Pick
A reasonable price with a little left over, Caleb Tiernan in slot 56. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Malachi Lawrence in the Round 3 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Carson Beck in Round 3, Pick 24, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They talked themselves into J.C. Davis at pick No. 100, and the board did not agree. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Max Llewellyn at edge rusher with interior defensive lineman, safety and other spots open.
They robbed the room for CJ Daniels here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Khordae Sydnor well ahead of where he belonged. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
Keanu Koht at Round 6, Pick 22 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
They reached into another round for Barion Brown, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Ethan O'Connor this early at the Round 7 slot. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Bryce Lance in the 245th overall pick, plain and simple. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
