There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Patriots started one anyway for Jackie Marshall, 208 picks ahead of schedule. The bottom line is a respectable B.
However the rest shakes out, Endries at that price is a win they earned. The phones were where this weekend was really won. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Taking Denzel Boston in Round 2, Pick 31 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They did well to land Drew Shelton in pick 95, just ahead of his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Bud Clark still on the board at the Round 4 slot. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A reach on Mason Reiger in slot 131; the board had better options right there. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Marvin Jones Jr. at the 171st pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Jackie Marshall well ahead of where he belonged. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
DJ Campbell in the Round 6 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Keagen Trost was still sitting there in the 212th overall pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jack Endries at No. 247 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The roster fit checks out.
