The Raiders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jaylin Simpson fell into the Round 6 slot. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
So much rides on Jayden Daniels that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Reaching for McCormick left real value on the table behind him. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 13 they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
A reach for Braden Fiske in the 44th pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Jaylen Wright in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Max Melton here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid up for Mason McCormick at the 147th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jaylin Simpson in the 195th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Curtis Jacobs slipping to pick 210 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Steal is underselling it; Joe Milton III at pick No. 221 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid a round early for Trey Knox in slot 225, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Owens at No. 227, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
