The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Johnny Dixon, the No. 190 name on the board, sitting there at No. 244 like a gift left on the doorstep.
Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 24 they get a blindside protector. The biggest hole, addressed.
You do not let an edge rusher like Chop Robinson reach the Round 2 slot and blink. They did not. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
They paid sticker price for Blake Corum in pick No. 87, and that is fine. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tyrone Tracy Jr. in pick 174 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Circle this one: Trente Jones at No. 216 is a fall that decides a draft. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board had Jordan Magee higher than Round 7, Pick 13, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 244th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
