If confidence were a draft strategy, the Giants would have aced it. Braiden McGregor at pick 185 is 30 spots clear of where he belonged.
For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain. The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes. They came away with juice, if not much beef up front.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 6 they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
No edge and no loss on J.J. McCarthy in pick 39; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid up for Jonathon Brooks at the 47th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They reached a country mile for Zak Zinter at pick No. 70, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Cole Bishop this early at the Round 4 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A wild overpay on Keith Randolph Jr. in Round 5, Pick 4, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A big swing on Braiden McGregor at slot 185, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
