Green Bay Packers

The Packers robbed the room for Jones. Final grade: B-.

The Packers did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Jarrian Jones fell into the 169th pick.

They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it. The Reiman reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.

The dealing was even money, start to finish.

In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · Quinyon Mitchell · CB · rank 19
In No. 25 they get an island corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
R2.13 · Pick 45 · Jonathon Brooks · RB · rank 44
By-the-book stuff, Jonathon Brooks at the 45th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 60
No drama and no debate, Javon Bullard went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cooper Beebe · OG · rank 76
Value with a capital V on Cooper Beebe in pick No. 88, a genuine coup. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · DJ James · CB · rank 87
Fair-plus on DJ James, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Cedric Gray · LB · rank 126
Cedric Gray at slot 127 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 159
A tidy bit of business in Round 5, Pick 32, where Mason McCormick graded well above the range. The roster fit checks out.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 149
Steal is underselling it; Jarrian Jones at pick 169 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Tip Reiman · TE · rank 225
A reach on Tip Reiman in Round 6, Pick 41; the board had better options right there. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R7.23 · Pick 243 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 224
You do not let a running back like Frank Gore Jr. reach the 243rd overall pick and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.31 · Pick 251 · Ethan Driskell · OT · rank 249
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ethan Driskell. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
