Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Patriots, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. Little went right, and the F does not pretend otherwise.
They have staked the next five years on Jayden Daniels, which is the only story that really matters here. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
If Chambers pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. Spend now, pay later; the math only works if this class delivers.
There is no soft landing here: they fought the board and left edge rusher open, and the grade is the bill.
Pick-by-Pick
No edge and no loss on Malik Nabers in the 3rd pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
In pick No. 6 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
They liked T'Vondre Sweat enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 40. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Kamren Kinchens went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Nothing to complain about; Ainias Smith went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid a round early for Steele Chambers in Round 6, Pick 7, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
