They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. Drake Maye is the Patriots' quarterback, full stop. A dependable weekend that grades out a B+.
Every board in the league had Limmer lower, and that gap is the story. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. On value alone, Foster makes the weekend a net positive.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 5 they get the arm they will build around. A real need, handled.
In pick 20 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Ja'Lynn Polk at the Round 2 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cooper DeJean in the 67th overall pick. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Javon Foster in the 69th pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The roster fit checks out.
A reach for Roman Wilson in pick No. 93; a little patience would have been rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Beaux Limmer. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for McCallan Castles, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A big swing on Zion Tupuola-Fetui at pick 181, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Frank Gore Jr. this early at slot 224. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
