The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Drake Maye, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
No drama and no debate, Ladd McConkey went about where he belonged in No. 34. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Christian Haynes in the 68th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Blake Fisher in pick No. 104 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
James Williams in Round 4, Pick 36 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Jaylan Ford in slot 182; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Jha'Quan Jackson at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
