The Giants went off the board in a big way for Trajan Jeffcoat, 51 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C-.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. On value alone, Melton makes the weekend a net positive. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
If Dallas Turner and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get juice off the edge, though they paid up to get him. A real need, handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Ladd McConkey in pick No. 39. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ricky Pearsall in No. 47 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
No drama and no debate, Bralen Trice went about where he belonged in slot 70. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Braelon Allen at the 104th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Matt Goncalves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They reached into another round for Ben Sinnott, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
You do not let a cornerback like Max Melton reach No. 116 and blink. They did not. It fills a real need, too.
Nothing to complain about; Cedric Gray went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Mohamed Kamara at Round 4, Pick 36 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They read the board right and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson was the payoff at pick 139. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Marist Liufau at slot 140 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Luke McCaffrey at the 175th overall pick is the proof. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They will replay Kamal Hadden at pick No. 185 for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Trajan Jeffcoat at the 252nd overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
