Somebody in the 89th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Eagles sat still while Josiah Trotter, the No. 56 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Reaching for Allen left real value on the table behind him.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 25 they get a building block for the line at fair value. A real need, handled.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Dillon Thieneman in the 57th pick, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
A quiet steal in slot 68: Eli Stowers for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Josiah Trotter in No. 89 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A straight-up fair deal on Darrell Jackson Jr. at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Bryce Lance at the 122nd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A conviction pick on Kaytron Allen at Round 4, Pick 29 that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
They will replay Jalon Kilgore at pick No. 137 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 153 with a little surplus value in Zxavian Harris. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A slide stopped in pick 178, with Febechi Nwaiwu worth more than the price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jeff Caldwell in pick No. 215 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Good price on Cole Payton in the Round 7 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a tight end like Jaren Kanak reach the 241st overall pick and blink. They did not. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
