The phones were a trap the Eagles kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
They are betting Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped running back, which is a strange place to end up. Bernard at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
A tidy little value on Kenyon Sadiq in the 23rd overall pick, a step better than break-even. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Joshua Josephs went about where he belonged in the Round 2 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Zachariah Branch at pick No. 72. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Germie Bernard in the 98th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Logan Jones in Round 4, Pick 14 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Treydan Stukes at No. 120 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Harold Perkins Jr. in No. 137, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Beau Stephens at Round 5, Pick 13 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took Louis Moore at par in the 160th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Taylen Green at pick 178 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
DJ Campbell at slot 189 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid up for Bobby Jamison-Travis at pick No. 197 when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zavion Thomas in the 221st overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Trey Zuhn III in the Round 7 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Alan Herron. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Robert Spears-Jennings at the 256th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dijon Johnson in pick No. 257 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
