You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D-.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Boyd has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Flournoy falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 22nd overall pick they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Roman Wilson at slot 50 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Edgerrin Cooper in No. 53. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
No edge and no loss on Kiran Amegadjie in pick No. 66; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Ray Davis at pick 104 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
They paid sticker price for James Williams in Round 4, Pick 20, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nice patience on Chau Smith-Wade, who had no business lasting to slot 138. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid a round early for Justin Eboigbe in pick 140, more than the board wanted. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They liked Khristian Boyd enough to skip the value, taking him in the 161st overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Javion Cohen went about where he belonged in Round 5, Pick 35. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jordan Jefferson at pick No. 172 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jared Wiley at the 210th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Caedan Wallace at No. 220 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Ryan Flournoy in the Round 7 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Trevin Wallace at the Round 7 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Kimani Vidal in the 253rd overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
