The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Eagles reached some 24 spots for Beau Stephens, and value like that does not grow back. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.
The running back hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Stowers pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. Job largely done: cornerback settled and 8 of 9 of the wish list covered.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a downhill hitter at safety. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Malachi Lawrence at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Eli Stowers is a better player than the 68th pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They paid sticker price for Bryce Lance in slot 98, and that is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Julian Neal at the 114th overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Beau Stephens at pick 137, and the board is aghast. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Zane Durant in pick 178 is fair value, right on his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Cole Payton went about where he belonged in the 197th pick. The roster fit checks out.
