Thirty-one other rooms let Kevin Coleman Jr. slide, and the Eagles were the ones holding the card at pick No. 197. Highway robbery. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Reaching for Demmings left real value on the table behind him.
They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 23 they get a ballhawk on the back end at fair value. A real need, handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Malachi Lawrence at Round 2, Pick 23, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Eli Stowers at pick 68 is the proof. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Logan Jones. A need, and now a little less of one.
De'Zhaun Stribling at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Gracen Halton at the 123rd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Charles Demmings at slot 137 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They let Kage Casey come to them and pounced at the 178th overall pick. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Kevin Coleman Jr. in the 197th overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kobe Baynes at No. 204 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
