When the story of this class is written, it opens with Joe Milton III at pick No. 161, a reach of 55 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. Fine in stretches, shaky in others: a C+.
The Turner pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. They were the ones paying the moving tax this weekend. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
It nets out as a middle-of-the-pack haul that neither helps nor hurts much.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get juice off the edge at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They took Javon Bullard at par in the Round 2 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Kamari Lassiter in pick 54, and that is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They liked Jared Wiley enough to skip the value, taking him in the 120th pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Mason McCormick in No. 140 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Walter Rouse in the 156th overall pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It fills a real need, too.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tahj Washington at pick No. 171 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dwight McGlothern at Round 5, Pick 36 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nathaniel Watson at pick 206 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Evan Williams at No. 210 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The roster fit checks out.
Matt Lee at the Round 6 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A need, and now a little less of one.
They reached a country mile for Myles Murphy at slot 225, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Kendall Milton at the 253rd overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
