You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Eagles did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
That interior defensive lineman hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will need Eboigbe to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. Landing Bishop that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Edgerrin Cooper in the 43rd pick, and that is fine. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Ricky Pearsall in pick 53 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No drama and no debate, Calen Bullock went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 20. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Khyree Jackson in slot 98 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Will Shipley at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Value with a capital V on Christian Mahogany in pick No. 110, a genuine coup. A need, and now a little less of one.
A straight-up fair deal on Javon Foster at the 119th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Theo Johnson in No. 120 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in the 122nd pick: Cole Bishop for less than the market said. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Spencer Rattler at the Round 4 slot is the proof. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Justin Eboigbe at pick 135 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Fair-plus on Roger Rosengarten, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They read the board right and Jacob Cowing was the payoff at the 161st overall pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A slide stopped in slot 171, with Dylan Laube worth more than the price. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Curtis Jacobs in pick No. 187 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Nothing to complain about; Jared Wiley went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui slipping to the Round 7 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They took Trevin Wallace at par in slot 228, which is nothing to complain about. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
