A respectable, level-headed haul for the Eagles: B-.

The Eagles did not so much draft Joe Milton III as overpay for him, 28 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. No fireworks, but a solid B-.

Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. If one pick saves this weekend, it is Ali.

Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.27 · Pick 27 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 29
Tyler Guyton at the 27th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
R2.18 · Pick 50 · Javon Bullard · S · rank 42
They let Javon Bullard come to them and pounced at pick No. 50. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R2.22 · Pick 54 · Edgerrin Cooper · LB · rank 49
Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 22 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.7 · Pick 71 · Xavier Worthy · WR · rank 55
They read the board right and Xavier Worthy was the payoff at No. 71. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R4.20 · Pick 120 · Chau Smith-Wade · CB · rank 126
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Chau Smith-Wade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R5.20 · Pick 156 · Isaiah Davis · RB · rank 155
Isaiah Davis in the Round 5 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
R5.25 · Pick 161 · Tykee Smith · S · rank 159
They paid sticker price for Tykee Smith in No. 161, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.35 · Pick 171 · Khristian Boyd · DL-EDGE · rank 178
They took Khristian Boyd at par in the Round 5 slot, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.36 · Pick 172 · Joe Milton III · QB · rank 200
A big swing on Joe Milton III at the 172nd overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Tahj Washington · WR · rank 188
By-the-book stuff, Tahj Washington at slot 181 squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.11 · Pick 186 · Curtis Jacobs · LB · rank 198
A premium they did not need to pay, Curtis Jacobs a notch or two before his time. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
R6.31 · Pick 206 · Caedan Wallace · OT · rank 210
Caedan Wallace at pick No. 206 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R6.35 · Pick 210 · M.J. Devonshire · CB · rank 192
Taking M.J. Devonshire in pick 210 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.45 · Pick 220 · Andrew Raym · C · rank 239
They talked themselves into Andrew Raym at Round 6, Pick 45, and the board did not agree. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Rasheen Ali · RB · rank 206
A running back of that caliber at pick 225 is the definition of value, full stop. A need, and now a little less of one.
