The Eagles lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Reaching for Lawrence left real value on the table behind him. They banked enough surplus on Trost to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 23rd pick they get a seam-stretching tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
No drama and no debate, Blake Miller went about where he belonged in pick 45. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid up for Malachi Lawrence at the 54th overall pick when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 3 slot with a little surplus value in Elijah Sarratt. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They read the board right and Bud Clark was the payoff at No. 114. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They jumped the gun on Caden Curry, taking him earlier than his grade liked. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Harold Perkins Jr. in the 137th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A minor itch, scratched.
Charles Demmings at the 153rd overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
No edge and no loss on Beau Stephens in Round 5, Pick 14; it is a wash and a sensible one. The roster fit checks out.
Matt Gulbin at pick No. 178 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach for Bobby Jamison-Travis in pick 197; a little patience would have been rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at slot 200 is the definition of value, full stop. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They will replay Cole Payton at the Round 6 slot for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
