Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Eagles spent slot 197 on Joshua Braun, a name most had 95 spots down the list. They moved the roster forward and banked a B- for it.
The Ponds value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Job largely done: cornerback settled and 7 of 9 of the wish list covered.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the interior defensive lineman spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
Arvell Reese at the Round 1 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nice patience on Zion Young, who had no business lasting to No. 54. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Emmanuel McNeil-Warren in slot 68, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: D'Angelo Ponds still on the board at the 111th overall pick. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Markel Bell at Round 4, Pick 14 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Taylen Green in pick No. 137 is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A conviction pick on Dae'Quan Wright at pick 178 that the board grades a round light. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Joshua Braun at Round 6, Pick 16 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. The roster fit checks out.
They took Eli Heidenreich at par in the 246th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
