There is a lot to like until you notice interior defensive lineman is still a hole. The Eagles never got to the one that mattered most. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Tampa. The cost of the Baker reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They went 6 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 22 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Bralen Trice slid further than he should have, and the 50th overall pick is lovely value for the edge rusher. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nice patience on T.J. Tampa, who had no business lasting to the Round 2 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Tykee Smith at No. 97 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Cedric Gray at pick 137 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Joe Milton III in Round 5, Pick 27 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Javon Baker at slot 172 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No edge and no loss on Michael Barrett in the 178th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
