The Eagles lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Paul pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Every board in the league had Baker lower, and that gap is the story.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 9 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
In the 22nd pick they get a lockdown presence outside. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 54th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Patrick Paul at pick No. 75 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Circle this one: Christian Haynes at pick 97 is a fall that decides a draft. It fills a real need, too.
They let Mohamed Kamara come to them and pounced at slot 126. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They did well to land Daijun Edwards in Round 5, Pick 1, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Joe Milton III at pick 163, value and slot in agreement. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They paid up for Javon Baker at the 172nd pick when waiting would have done the job. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nothing to complain about; Frank Gore Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
By-the-book stuff, Mark Perry at the Round 7 slot squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
