The phones were a trap the Eagles kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
Every board in the league had Lindberg lower, and that gap is the story. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
They went 9 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a home-run threat at receiver. The biggest hole, addressed.
In pick No. 31 they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 50th overall pick, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
No edge and no loss on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 55; it is a wash and a sensible one. It adds depth where they could use a little.
The board had McKinnley Jackson higher than No. 97, and the interior defensive lineman fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They took Khyree Jackson at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Malik Washington in the 126th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Cole Bishop slid further than he should have, and slot 137 is lovely value for the safety. The roster fit checks out.
Nothing to complain about; Daijun Edwards went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Joe Milton III at slot 163 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They did well to land Grayson Murphy in No. 172, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Brennan Jackson at Round 6, Pick 3 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Omar Speights at the Round 6 slot, value and slot in agreement. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Nice patience on Jawhar Jordan, who had no business lasting to pick 220. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A premium they did not need to pay, Chad Lindberg a notch or two before his time. It fills a real need, too.
