The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Sinnott has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. That Jones pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 2nd pick they get a passer to set the clock by. A real need, handled.
They liked Jackson Powers-Johnson enough to skip the value, taking him in Round 2, Pick 4. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Brenden Rice at the 67th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A big swing on Darius Robinson at the Round 4 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Value said wait; Ben Sinnott in pick No. 103 says they were not listening. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cedric Gray in pick 138. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A reach for Kimani Vidal in No. 181; a little patience would have been rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Value with a capital V on Christian Jones in the 220th pick, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
