Washington Commanders

The Commanders left with their quarterback, and a B to match.

This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Adonai Mitchell, the No. 31 name on the board, stolen at the 100th pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.

So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. Reaching for Gore Jr. left real value on the table behind him. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.

All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Caleb Williams · QB · rank 2
In No. 2 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.4 · Pick 36 · Jackson Powers-Johnson · C · rank 51
They paid up for Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 36 when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R2.8 · Pick 40 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 39
Tyler Guyton at No. 40 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 71
No drama and no debate, Brenden Rice went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 3. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.37 · Pick 100 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 31
They barely believed it either: Adonai Mitchell still on the board at the 100th pick. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Dominick Puni · OT · rank 103
By-the-book stuff, Dominick Puni at slot 102 squarely in line with his ranking. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.5 · Pick 141 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 171
A big swing on Frank Gore Jr. at pick 141, well ahead of any board in the building. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 177
Jaylan Ford in the 181st overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R7.26 · Pick 246 · Myles Jones · CB · rank 214
Myles Jones in the Round 7 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
