The board owed the Giants one, and it paid up: DJ James, the No. 53 name on the board, sitting there at the 107th pick like a gift left on the doorstep. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The cost of the Orhorhoro reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Interior defensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Joe Alt at par in the Round 1 slot, which is nothing to complain about. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Ruke Orhorhoro well ahead of where he belonged. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Javon Bullard in the 70th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A cornerback of that caliber at Round 4, Pick 7 is the definition of value, full stop. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Will Shipley at the 141st overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid a round early for Joe Milton III in pick 183, more than the board wanted. The roster fit checks out.
